Two authoritative sources have revealed numerous details about Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, the new chapter in Ubisoft’s popular series set to be released in 2024 on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. In recent months, various pieces of information related to the two protagonists have emerged online, and there is a high likelihood that these details are accurate.
According to the reports, the male protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will be Yasuke, the real-life African samurai who, during the Sengoku period, managed to become a bodyguard for the warlord Nobunaga Oda. History tells us that Yasuke arrived in Japan on a ship, and it’s unclear whether he was a slave or a traveler, but he was the first man of color to arrive in the Land of the Rising Sun. Impressed by his appearance and sword skills, Nobunaga Oda elevated him to the rank of samurai and welcomed him into his personal retinue. In Ubisoft’s video game, Yasuke is expected to start as a slave, in chains on a ship along with his beloved. After her death in the early moments of the game, as a result of an attack on the slave ship, Yasuke will break free and join Nobunaga Oda’s army, embarking on a quest for revenge and to bring an end to the civil war.
The second protagonist of the game will be Naoe Fujibayashi, a female ninja (or kunoichi) and the daughter of the renowned Nagato Fujibayashi, a real-life ninja considered “one of the top three jonin of Iga” along with Hattori Hanzo and Momochi Sandayu. This character è original, and similarly to Yasuke, she begins her adventure consumed by hatred for those responsible for her father’s death. According to the reports, Yasuke and Naoe will be “fierce enemies” at the beginning of the story, but they will later join forces with the goal of unifying Japan.
